Can't see my dang sights now

Well, I had cataract surgery on both eyes the last couple of months. My dang distance vision is excellent after the surgeries, but now I can't see the dang back sights on my rifles! Any of y'all had to deal with that?

L&R Manton plate to small Siler?

Well, about 20 years ago I built my first flintlock rifle....a .32 Tenessee rifle with a nice curly maple stock, a Green Mountain barrel, and an L&R Manton lock. The lock turned out to be not very dependable, and a very nice rifle has hung in the rack for most of the last 20 years. :shake: So...

    Original caplock info needed

Can anybody tell me anything about this old rifle? It's got a 36" barrel that's around a .41 caliber, and at least an inch across the flats. A friend stopped by with it today and I told him I'd see what I could find out. Thanks.

Colerain .54/28 gauge suggestions and comments ?

Well, I ordered a new fowler a couple of days ago, and I was looking for a little info from y'all. It's gonna have a 44" .54/28 gauge Colerain barrel. I've got about 45 pounds of .530 round balls cast up so I'm hoping it'll shoot them OK with a pillow ticking patch. :hmm: Any suggestions on a...

    TVM 20 gauge smoothbore barrels?

I'm pretty sure they are made from tubing, but is it seamless tubing? Could a few of the folks on here that have them post some comments on likes and dislikes please? I posted this in the gun builder's forum because it concerned a part, but I only got one response. Maybe it should have been...

    A couple of new horns

I stopped by my buddy's shop yesterday and saw 2 new horns that I couldn't live without. The flash on the camera washed out a lot of the color.

Best .62 smoothbore barrel for round ball?

I'm gonna have a good friend build me a gun this winter, and it's probably gonna be a .62 smoothbore. I've already got a choked smoothbore gun for shooting shot, and I would like to have some opinions from y'all for the most accurate barrel for shooting a patched round ball. This gun will pretty...

    Warren Offenberger??

Is anybody familiar with Mr. Offenberger? I saw one of his guns last week and it was a fine piece of work.

    Cheap gun rack

I spent a couple of hours in the shop last night and made a simple rack for the ML guns. Nothing fancy, and it cost less than $30 for the wood. Thanks sniper68 for the idea! :hatsoff:

    Castrated squirrels??

I saw a comment in the "tactics for squirrels" thread and it got me to thinking about the old story about older male squirrels castrating the younger males. Has anybody ever heard that? :hmm:

    Dental lead

How much lead do y'all get from your dentist in the average "batch", and how long does it take? I know those pieces are pretty small, but I'm sure I can get all my dentist has unless somebody else is already getting it.

    Another pistol kit question

Well, I found an old "Colonial Pistol Kit" while rummaging through some stuff that had been stored away for about 20 years, and I've been trying to figure out what to do with it. It has a 7/8", 6" long, .45 caliber barrel, but I have no idea of the twist rate. The stock fits my hand really well...

    Side plate question

After you get the side plate inletted into the stock what's the best way to attach it permanently. :hmm:

    Match gun?

This post might have been better placed in the "accuracy" forum, but since it's about a flintlock rifle I thought I'd post it here. Could some of you guys who shoot matches on a regular basis give me some idea of the guns you shoot, and why you have them set up the way you do? I've always bought...

    Colerain barrel questions

Some of you might have seen the pictures of the rifle I got at Tip Curtis' place last week. When I bought it I thought I'd just get me a deer hunting rifle, but I've been tinkering with setting the sights lately and it seems to be shooting some pretty fair groups. This is the first Colerain...

Got a new one from Tip last week

I took a trip to tip Curtis' place last week and a new rifle followed me home. Curly maple stock, large Siler, 44' Colerain .50 caliber barrel, brass trimmings, and I think the triggers are Davis. I bought it in the white like the other guns I've bought from Tip.

First one of these for me.

I shot this target yesterday offhand at 25 yards with a .40 flinter:

    Chambers Virginia/English, or Large Siler???

Well, I'm hoping to buy or build a new .54 rifle pretty soon and I've got a little bit of a decision to make. :hmm: I got a fowler from Tip Curtis a few months back with a Chambers Colonial Virginia lock, and it's probably the best lock I've ever had on a gun. It's strong, fast, and...

    Update on squirrel dog

I posted some pictures a while back of a feist I'm getting from Georgia. I'll be picking him up Friday. He sure looks a lot different now. Here's a picture of him at just a little less than 4 weeks: And here's a couple more taken a few days ago:
