excellent, Bevenuto,
I really enjoyed that. The emphasis on the 'rooster' spring being very strong confirms something for me. The locks that have trouble producing enough spark, often don't have enough pressure of the pyrite on the wheel. And the lack of crosscuts saves the pyrite.

Pressure of the 'cock' is set by the geometry (length and angle) of the foot of the cock arm and the strength of the spring. The photos there show a very worn foot, so the spring is obviously very strong and the foot not hard enough.

I think if I am reading this right, the lack of crosscuts in the wheel works if the dogspring is strong enough (10 newtons, or 2.248 pound force) AND the mainspring is strong enough to acelerate the wheel fast enough.

My interpretation of what he is saying is that crosscuts produce sparks in the case of weak springs, and at the great expense of pyrite life

I really like that page, I love looking at the toolmarks on that pistol . They show the economy of labour used in putting together a "plain" weapon and the techniques used
(yeah I'm weird :youcrazy: )
