When you were talking about the spring clamp for barrel lugs or soldering the sights on. I took an old 4 inch C clamp . Then I notched the top clamp in a V. Then I beveled the bottom part to fit the round part of the barrel. It works extremely well for me. Holds lugs and sights for soldering really well....

Very cool , glad you found something. I've tried clamp before but never any luck . I have to take them off the re align or I have to take the part back off to reflux , esp. now a days with sh itty paste flux , or the solder won't flow underneath , it was always something. I can't wait to try the springy thingy , LOL ....but ...maybe I never will. :D

Inlet trigger guard ...very few of the original T.G.s were inlet but some were and its for me , and just feels better to me , I got small fat hands so I can get my stubby little booger pickers around that trigger guard. :D

What is the difference between a small bow or large bow trigger guards, historically?

Can you show some pictures of them side-by-side? And were they all very “half-round” in shape?
Hi bud ....the large bow T.G. is post 1780 , via T.M. Hamilton's research , and the small bow is pre 1780. I'll try and find the pic of an original Wilson , 1751 . its a fine example of early T.G. I'm working ng in the shop right now so , in a bit ...

Good to know! I have been reading (looking at the pictures mostly) in For Trade and Treaty and noticed the different sizes but didn’t put together the time frames.

Just remember ...that is a NW trade gun thing only . And ....there were many many different makers so there are subtle differences even between NW trade gun to NW trade gun .I'll post pictures of the 1751 Wilson if I can find it . Perfect example of an early NW gun ...For the other end of the spectrum check out some of Whatley's trigger guards , Lordy ! They are like a hoop ! LOL

..... Couple T.G.s I forged out to show the difference in bow size ... both with early style " beaver tail " finials
