No you dont. For the pan you can use the same powder as you have for the main charge.
Didn't know that. Always heard you needed 4f and 3f in the barrel

Hell No. I use 3fg as the charge, and primer in my .32 caliber. Instant ignition.

Trust us. If you have 3f you are all set. What caliber is it?
I forget the gentleman's name, but he did a fairly thorough test several years ago between 4F, 3F, and 2F (both GOEX and Swiss).
The difference between 4F vs 3F in the pan is literally just a few milliseconds.

I have 2 1/2 cans of 4f in a cabinet. Once I was told to just use the 3f that was it.
The only reason I've used 4fg is I was duped into believing that I had to. The old timers used the same powder in the pan as they used in the bore. I use 3fg all round now.

I use fffg and ffffg in the pan...no problems.
A guy at the range last year gave me a can of 7fg (fffffffg)...that stuff is awesome.

Just use 3F for priming and the main charge and you will be fine.
