Changed Dragoon grips color

Did not like the red finish that was on my Uberti 3rd model Dragoon. So removed it with citrus remover. Then applied coats of tru oil. Love the look! Doesnt look so plastic. Also installed Slixshot nipples. Will shoot tomorrow and see how well they work.

I also have a 3rd model dragoon, it is my favorite pistol for all applications. I too have been thinking re-doing the grips, yours looks good.

Model 3 Dragoon is the highest on my want list. Maybe Santa? Having said that, I haven't seen many available. I will wait patiently. Yeah...right. Thanks for posting the picture.

I once owned an original 62 Colt police model that would have rated in the 98% range. It had a redish brown shiny one piece grip. This was the original finish. This gun was a presentation model however, so may have differed from standard

I was very lucky, walked in Sportsman warehouse mid summer, and couldn't believe they had just received it. Out the door with military discount 417! Must gave been my day. Havent seen any bp guns there since. Some of the wierd in line stuff is all.

Does the loading lever drop much with yours? I've actually seen some that have the horizontal latch but not many. I really like yours. I'm real excited about getting one. Some day anyway.

It does drop acassionaly, if I keep the load around 35 gr. it will not drop. But whats the fun in that? Am looking for a 1860 Army just so I can shoot a much lighter load, just to save on powder. Also so I can carry it on the hip. The Walker and Dragoon are a tad heavy.

That’s a very good point. Who cares if it drops right? Just Part of the fun. Thanks man. I finally have an 1860 and am very glad I bought it. It was used and a 2010 model Pietta. Like it very much. I am going to seriously consider doing what you did to your grips. What a World of difference that made! So glad you shared the method in which you achieved that look. Thank you.

All original Colt’s revolvers had that lovely red tint to the wood grips. Your revolver had the correct color until you screwed it up.

A person ought to have a horse pistol or two as well as a brace of belt pistols. Maybe a pocket pistol would be handy when your back’s against the wall. (Think of the powder you’ll save shooting a 36!)

Yeah buying smaller caliber guns to save on powder isn’t working for me either…
