100 Yard Bench Shoot

Several members have asked for a 100 yard shoot. Here ya go! Last month we worked over the smoothbores. Let's put them rifles to the test!

Any traditional>edit< open sighted, sidelock muzzleloading rifle, firing a single projectile, normally fired from the shoulder, is allowed.
No cannons. No chunk guns.

The target is a standard 8.5" x 11" sheet of printer paper. You may mark the target with whatever aiming point you like. Shots will be measured from center of paper not necessarily from center of aiming point.

Distance is 100 yards.

Shots may be taken from a rested position from a bench or table.

Three shots as close as possible to center of the target.

Targets with more than 3 holes will be disqualified.

Shots will be measured from the center of the target to the center of the hole.

Smallest total measure of all 3 shots determines the winner.

Targets that have been mutilated will be disqualified.

All Muzzleloadingforum members are eligible to participate.

Members screen name must be written on their target.(So we know who won. )

One entry per member.

Multiple targets may be submitted in the same envelope to save postage if more than one member shoots in the same group.

Targets must be postmarked by December 1, 2009 to be eligible.

Targets received after December 10, 2009 will be disqualified.

Targets will not be returned unless an S.A.S.E. is included.

Good luck, have fun, and be safe! :hatsoff:

Oooops! My bad. Open sights only, please.

Now I have a good excuse to get back out to the range (woods) where I shoot.

Jethro, why only a 30 day run on this one. Most of the other ones were 60 days. Are you getting bored? :rotf:

Yeah, that's it. I'm runnin' outta things to do. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :surrender:

I usually only run the big ones for 60 days. Just the ones where I expect there'll be a lot of participation and trash talkin'. Or when I figger it'll take longer to get many in it. Most of 'em are 30 days.
With hunting seasons, Christmas, Winter, etc. coming up we might do a couple 60 day contests to ease the rush a little.

For the future, I have a few member-suggested shoots to do, and I'm always open to ideas for more.

This one will be fun. I've got an excellent 100 yard range, a good solid rest and poor shooting skill. Two out of three ain't bad, though.

If that's the bench you want to use, feel free.

Heck, set ya a lawn chair up on a couple pallets in the bed and a sandbag on the roof might work even better. :hmm:

I'm trying convince my wife to let me take the recliner out of the living room and out to the range for this one!

Hey GW, I've been working on my 100 yard load. I really want to shoot this contest with my flintlock but I'm having trouble getting 3 shots to stay close together??? :rotf:

I fired 12 shots yesterday trying to find my most accurate load. While all 12 shots stayed inside 5" at 100 yards (certainly minute of deer) I never did manage to get any competition winning groups. I'm afraid I will have to resort to using my old .54 percussion yet. :shake:

My friend suggested maybe 5" groups is all my eyes are capable of anymore with open sights. Surely that ain't right. :youcrazy:

Hey Brother, certainly your friend is mistaken. A couple of youngsters like us still have our keen senses. GW
