If crisco works , then why not lard? I have been playing with lard and it does not need to be refridgerated, it is still soft in the fridge at 34deg. in the freezer overnight it is hard, but not frozen solid, and at room temp. (70deg)it doesn't turn to liquid. I have never used it but I am gonna try it. It's also REALLY inexspensive, 89cents a pound. Has anyone used it?

I mix bees wax with lard.Works good.Been using it for a couple years.

If you like lard you would like deer tallow,I do as it stays in tin better then lard. The beeswax will help it.(lard). I had to use it when I used groundhog grease. Don't need it with the deer tallow. Dilly

Hello Stubert,

i been doing the same thing but i havn't got the mix ratio right yet. mine is too darn hard when it's cold.

:hmm:

I havnt used renedred tallow in many years, as much as anything because ot the time it takes to render.
ive found what works well for me as patch lube is a combination of 4 oz of crisco, 1/4 oz. of beeswax weighed on a cheap kichen scale, add a couple teaspoons of olive oil, melted together in a dbl boiler arrangement (old kichen pan with some water and my lube container sitting in the water) until it all melts, & i mix with something like a popsicle stick then remove and let it cool.

I also precut/prelube patches because i find that to be the most convient for me & allows me the maximum amount of shooting i can get in when range time is available.

Hello Stubert
I use lard i put my cut patches in the tin with it and forget about it. The lard smell off in a little while but hey. The lard also becomes more solid as it sits a while. I keep the mixure, and the precut patches in a square smoke can, that measures 1 x 4 x 6.5 inches...I find it works well and is also good for fox bait, seriuosly... It helps mask my scent as well..
my best reguards a loyalist Dawg :hatsoff:
