I don't know if Wesson oil has any corn in it. I know if you use corn oil to season cast iron and such it gets sticky.
Your doing it wrong. Wipe out all but the tiniest amount of the oil, nearly dry, with a dry paper towel. Put the pan in the oven at 400* for an hour or so. Yes, veg oils congeal into a sticky mess over time. That makes them unsuitable for preserving and lubing guns.
 
50% crisco 40% bees wax 10% olive oil, you can adjust the bees wax according too the temps, colder more crisco less bees wax, warm less crisco more bees wax if you want to flavor it use the extracts for candy making just a bit goes a long way, that way when you lick yer fingers they taste good. Also good for chapped lips or hands. All I have ever used for the muzzle loaders and even when lubing cast bullets for the un-mentionable B.P. cartridges.
