Starting to make a batch of albondegas soup, it will probably be an all day project. About a three gallon batch.
I started a pot of chicken stew this morning. Similar to your meatball but using chicken.
A very cold day here - and an excellent choice of cuisine. I'll bet you are having tortillas with yours, I am opting for fresh baked cornbread..
When I do the meatball I generally use pork sausage - but only because I have an abundance of pork here from local wild sources.

probably a no no here, But any way gathering up things for a pieta 58 rem. to convert to cartridge, have every thing on the way except a set of dies, and am currently working a set on e-bay. It has been quite the journey finding the things to make it go bang, about 6 months of looking. Other than that feeding the fire place entertaining the wife and dog.
 
Griz when I make the albondigas I use the fattiest hamburger I can get. Make the soup one day, then put it in the icebox over night and all the fattiest stuff floats to the top I break off and skim about 90% of the fat and discard, then heat and serve. The spices I use are ground Mexican oregano, ground coriander seeds, and ground cumin, plus carrots, celery, grated onion, diced green chiles and lotsa garlic. Salt and pepper individually to taste. In the meatballs I use garlic, diced green chiles, grated onion mixed into the meat along with more of the spices then formed into meatballs. Good stuff.

MMMMM --- sounds good. Last time I made it a female friend (who is a Mexico City girl) suggested adding an anise star (fish it out after cooking is done) and a smidgen of marjoram. The anise can also be used in a basic brining\curing bath to add some great background aromatics to cured collar bacon.
 
Of all weekends my heater picks this one to give out on me. Oh well, it's 25 years old. Lets hope its only the thermostat,which by the way won't install itself.Cuts into my nap time! Anti-freeze, pipe wrapping, plants indoors etc. Thats been my day so far, now you can add installing a thermostat.Just think in a couple of months we'll be complaing about Air conditioners instead of heaters.
 
Mushka, I hope to heck you used REAL green chiles from Hatch, NM, in your pot of soup.
Snowing here in Alamogordo this morning. I saw this coming and made a gallon of chicken noodle soup a couple of days ago. Had the first round of Moderna vaccine yesterday afternoon. Arm is sore but that's all so far.
 
I have recovered this morning from my second vaccine so I opened a package that came yesterday.

I ordered this after reading the thread Black Powder. I looked up Powder Inc and signed up and sent my release form. I ordered 5 lbs of 3F on February 4 and it arrived on the 15th.

I wish they would go back to metal cans as they are way cooler than plastic.

I have made several trips to my local gun shop, called others asking for black powder. All were out, and no offer to get me any. That I can order it and get it in mass quantities tells me something. Businesses are struggling bad, they are short of cash even to supply items that sell off the shelf fast and have ready customers. They are trying to survive in their core business operation and using company money to survive on hoping to get through the dip. Perhaps they should read John Gould's book Yankee Storekeeper.

I packed up my experimental JAG parts and left for work.

It's 27 here in Florida a musket shot away from the white sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico and 29 degrees in Mid Coast Maine a cannon ball shot away from Penobscot Bay, weather, go figure.

Yesterday, I cleaned up a Hopkins and Allen underhammer pistol. Fit a new nipple, had to be shortened a bit, and repaired the brass ring that surrounds the nipple to keep sparks from flying back at you. Waiting on some .433 balls to test it out.

Today, I think I'll load up some paper tubes for the woods walk this Saturday. It's sleeting out right now.
 
I spent 4 years in Alamogordo at Holloman. I love that area.
The wife and I considered Alamogordo or Tularosa at one time, decided on Albuquerque due to the abundance of close by services including being near The Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center. We spent a lot of time cruising that whole area.
 
Our heating system at school seems to be on the fritz...So I got to watch my poor students freeze as they tried to get their work done. Heat finally came back on during 7th hour, so the last 45 minutes of class today is looking pretty good. I cannot believe how much the cold just sucks the life out of you and physically drains you.
