I've shipped 8 or 9 rifles using the USPS Priority Mail. The only problem was once during the lockdowns a package took a month to get to Florida. I filed a missing mail report, and it finally showed up in good shape. I was told by my local postmaster(small PO) that long boxes can get jammed in the sorting equip., and someone will set it off. Later it is put in the holding room to be sorted later if there is time. A former employee said its called getting "looped". He said to always mention "looped" in the missing or late mail report.
We live out in the county 100yds. off the road. Our PO is so small it is only open 4 hrs/day. The carriers are good. Big packages on the back deck with a knock on the door or I get a pick up note, but with tracking and delivery texts I know when to look for them. UPS and Fedex put things on the front deck. Being retired, I 'm usually home and meet them when the driveway alarm goes off.
