I shot my .62 Fowler for the first time this morning. I purchased a .600 RB mold and cast up some balls to try. This is my first flintlock,by the way.
To start with, the gun was hitting quite a bit left (about 8") and about 11" high at 50 yards. This gun does have a rear sight so I made some adjustmants for windage and continued to shoot until I got the left and right thing dialed in, then went to work on the elevation. I ended up filing down the rear sight and re-filing the notch to get the POI to a place where I could moniter my groups on a piece of paper. By the time I called it quits for the day, the gun was shooting about 2 1/2"-3", 3 shot groups at 50 yards. I am still about 4" high at that range but I figure I will mess with it a little at a time from there. I was actually very pleased with the results as I have heard quite a few complaints about smoothbore accuracy from others on this forum. I figure I have a great starting point and look forward to more range time to fine tune the setup. I really need to work on the trigger too, I bet it has a 20lb. pull!
I was shooting 80 gr. 2F KIK powder with a lubed felt wad over the powder, pillow tick patch lubed with Stumpy's Moose Juice over a .600 ball and 4F Goex prime.
The gun is a custom Fowling Rifle with a 30" barrel and an L&R Durrs Egg lock. I was using Tom Fuller Black English Flints.

Sounds like you're on your way...and improving the trigger should tighten the groups even more!
