Well after many years of shooting and hunting with all kinds of muzzleloading rifles I got my first flintlock. .54 caliber, 35" straight barrel, signed by "A. Hunkeler"

Plan is to go shooting tomorrow.

What did she cost? You can tell the group, PM me, or keep it to yourself! What barrel, lock, breach plug style (e.g., Nock)?
Looks like a nice rifle and the same rifle I have, only in .62. Shot her yet?

Cappers' been screamin' he can't find a LH rifle! :rotf:

The lock is on the wrong side! Where in North Eastern Ohio? I am in Holmes county. :hmm:

I had to look hard to find a nice backwards rifle.

I'm about 30 mile east of Canton.

Wow!!! That is beautiful. Is he a custom maker? Good luck with it. Hopefully it shoots as good as it looks.

I haven't found out much about the builder yet. There is an Al Hunkeler that was an early member(1968) of a blackpowder club called the Cascade Mountain Men from Washington state. http://cascademountainmen.com/history.html

I did find one other person with one of his rifles looking for info on him.

I got to shoot it today and it shoots as good as it looks. It likes 80 grains fff with a .530 rb and pillow ticking.

I do have some learning to do about adjusting the flints.

You certainly could have done a lot worse for your first flintlock. She's a good looking rifle!

Give Mike Nesbitt a shout over at muzzleloader mag for info on that builder. That is Mike's locale and I think that he mentioned your builder to me once in a conversation some time back when we went to a show at Enumclaw. Mike is a very helpful fellow and knows a lot. I'll bet that he can tell you what you want to know.

Very nice!! Let us know how it shoots!

Thanks for all the compliments. My photos don't do the rifle justice.

I shot it yesterday, shooting offhand I started at 25 yards with a 6 O'clock hold. First 2 shots were almost touching. 3rd shot was a center mass hold and I cut the X ring.

Moved out to 50 and had a misfire, adjusted the priming charge and this time it went off but I was low and to the left. Next 3 shots were touching in the 10 and X ring. Then I started having some problems, finally changed flints and the 5 shot was a bad hang fire. Fired once more and got it back in the black.

I have some learning to do about positioning the flints. I know there is a learning curve and I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions.
