Ya know Boys, before I knew this land, I used to sight in my weapon at 50 yards. And heck, I ain't shot at a deer at that distance since 03. Now my shots are more at 50 to 100 feet. So I figured it's time for a change. (sound familiar?) I built me another shootin stand, and it's set up at 100 feet. So I adjusted the sights and I feel their all kill shots.
Now for the particulars = .527 ball with a .018 pillow tickin patch with hobbles lube usin 85 grains of Pyrodex RS out of a 54 cal. Remember, when it comes to black powder, it's "Less powder, more lead, shots far, kills dead".
More powder, less lead, kicks hard, wide spread.

Well, now that you read the book, here's the movie.

I can relate. Around here the cover is THICK. You can`t even see 50yds in the places I hunt. The shots I take at game are usually 30yds or less. Nice shootin by the way

I KNEW someone would chastise you for blowing down the barrel! If you want to singe off that great lookin' beard, who cares?
Nice shootin', and nice country!

From an OLD post of mine,,,,

My turn
just adin a post in line

If you have a patched round ball in your weapon and you blow down the barrel, I don't think your breath is goin past the patch, and if it did, If there was a hot spot behind the patch, I think it would have already went off, You don't need to put you lips on the barrel to blow down it, Now this is all happening after you fire the weapon any way, You blow down the barrel after you fire your shot and after you check the cap is removed, If you get that wrong, Well, I think it's just nature's way of correcting her mistakes, Have a nice evenin,,

OK. I too blew down the barrel but have since changed my ways.
N-SSA code of conduct, if you put any part of your body or hand over the muzzle, before or after a shot, you WILL be pulled off the firing line.
As I said earlier, it is a safety issue but wheteher you follow or not is up to you. :v

Hmm, how do you load without putting your hands over the muzzle?

This reminds me of a movie I once saw on a tv contraption, I think the name of it was "The never ending story"
thhaha.gif

But this one never ends well. Heck Boys, let's put this one to bed.

That spread poem refers to shot patterns. ;-)

With rifles it's more like:

Load for your twist,
Or the deer will be missed. :haha:

Hold the rammer in your fingers.

Watch this video. I'll get burned piddies for certain but wouldn't catch a ball (or rammer) in the palm.
