Half-stocked Rifle

Hello,

Found this rifle and would like to know more about it. Any assistance appreciated. Cal .45 barrel is 32" long. I don't have it in my hands yet to give it a closer look. Thanks

I would say built for target shooting, missing a barrel key and a major chunk of wood on an important part of the stock (which could be fixed)

1850 - 1870ish sporting/target rifle, muzzle turned round for a bullet starter. Would be interesting to know the rifling twist rate.

What’s up with the nipple area? Looks almost like a big chunk of weld that’s been filed to a cone.

That's what I think it is too.
