Found a consignment Colt 1861 special, Signature Series

I was looking for a $500 CW type rifle in 58 cal. rifle for awhile with no luck on line. Happen to remember a old gun shop in Austin, Tx that had lots of guns. Called them ask if they had muzzle loaders , yes one in the safe on consignment. Ask what is it, he looked said it’s a Colt? I’m thinking must be a mistake. Ask how much, he said $275. I’m thinking , got to be junk, right. I ask Can you send pic. He did. Looked brand new in pics.
I went to Austin next am. Result was $275 1861 Colt Signature Series 2 band 50 cal Game Master almost new.. sent the barrel to Bobby Hoyt for a rebore to .577 for $125.
now I finally have my .58 cal 2 band for $400 and it shoots great groups. Sometimes you have to be patient and keep on turning rocks!
Looks new.what a fun trip this has been!

Score!! I've looked around a lot locally. One shop had a junk unmentionable BP rifle for better than $500. I said I wouldn't shoot it but he said oh sure it's safe to shoot! Another had a repop, imperfect Paterson on consignment for $800. So, I find junk or pay big. Glad you found a real deal.
