Another Texan with some more chatter.

The Republic did have a pile of India Pattern Brown Bess muskets after San Jacinto. They also had "jeagers with sabers" which had to be Baker Rifles and their sword-bayonets which were taken from the members of the Casadores or riflemen. After the Alamo fell, Santa Anna pushed on east with the "preference companies" of his battalions (read: grenadier and rifle companies). After the Republic was formed, Merabeau Lamar, the second president, sought to form infantry regiments though only got a few companies together with what little money Texas actually had. The infantry was issued M.1816 muskets while the Dragoons got Hall percussion carbines. Many folks have dug through the Capitol basement hoping to find some of these treasures though nobody ever stops to consider that the Capitol building dates from the 1880's and any guns in the original building's basement got issued out during the Great Unpleasantness of the 1860's if they hadn't been stolen or destroyed prior to that. :peace:
