Captured rammer

I am looking to convert a repro musketoon by adding a captive ramrod. Will either use an Enfield or Cook and Brother. Have any of you done this or have any suggestions? I am considering using the swivel portion from a repro horse pistol and making the lug which would be dovetailed into the barrel. If you have any close up photos or tips it would be greatly appreciated.

The only tip I can offer is to make doubly sure you have removed the rammer from the barrel before you pull the trigger.

You may wish to try using a captive ramrod before converting your gun. They do look cool . Their only use was to keep a cavalry man from losing his ramrod while attempting a reload at the gallop They slow reloading but they sure look cool

Wow. Nice looking carbine. Thanks for the detailed photos! Can you tell how it is attached to the barrel? Is it dovetailed in or screwed in or brazed on? Thanks Mike.

My guess is that it is dovetailed & brazed - unfortunately I collect more photos than antiques!

The diameter of the barrel is about 13/16" at the muzzle.
