Hi folks. I am not exactly new to the forum but
it is not often that I post to it.

However I now find it necessary to consult with
someone that is knowledgeable on a subject that I
am totally ignorant of. There are many other
subjects that I am only mildly ignorant of but
this one is special.

I picked up a cannon on a gun deal yesterday and
need lots of information.

It is labled on the barrel "Jukar Japan" and the
barrel is about 10.5 inches long and is labeled
as being 70 caliber.

My question is whether it will be safe to shoot.
If so what would be a safe load. I probably
would shoot more blanks but just in case I get
a wild hair and want to try ball what size ball
and powder load would work?

Again, any information and help and advice will
be greatly appreciated.

Over the hill.

Could you poat some photo's of this?

they could help in determining if it is a shooter or not

Hi Kabar2

I guess I didn't phrase ny question clearly.
Unfortunately I am not computer literate enough
to post a picture. However I will try to describe the cannon in a little more detail. It
was built to be a shooter. It is a copy I believe
of the mountain howitzer and is labled on the
barrel "black powder only". The cannon is in
very good condition and the barrel is rifled, not
smoothbore.

My concern is the brand. There are some circles
that do not speak very highly of the brand.

If I can figure out how to post a picture I will
do so.

Thanks for the reply. If I need to send more info
please let me know.

I have a .75 caliber barrel with the three entwined circle proof marks (japanese mrks). It is on a "CVA" Napoleon, made in the '70s. I have seen barrels in .75, .70, and .58. Here is a pic of my gun:
