just opened a bad can of CCI caps. I had several cans in my last batch that the caps were a dull color. they all seemed to work fine so i didnt think much of it. this last can that i just opened the caps were dull color. looks like copper instead of brass. i was getting failure to ignite every other cap. I put brand new nipple on and same thing happened. Thought maybe my mainspring was getting weak???? anyways i had a can of winchester caps on hand and tried them. 10 shots no missfires..

How old and where did you get them? Any idea?

First thing I did was change the nipple to a brand new nipple that the caps fit loosely on. I bought these at a gun store that has high inventory turnover about 3 months ago. I noticed imediatly that they were a different color. dull copper looking. no shine. the other 400 worked just fine. this last tin not good.

Over the years I've had "bad" caps from time to time. Remington #10 caps were the worst back in the mid 1980s, but they were the only game in town at the time. Remember, this was pre-Internet. Looking back, I wonder if it wasn't the cheap nipples CVA was using on their brass-framed revolvers. You certainly could have a bad batch of caps, and you've done all the relevant tests. I would contact CCI and see about getting replacement caps. Wadaya got to lose?

Usually when I start having caps that don't fire, I look closely at the nipples... which you've done... and either replace them or refurbish them with a file. I've been using CCI primers and caps for quite some time now and haven't had any issues with them... though I used to like RWS caps back in the day.

No shine is right.

The last four tins I bought from Bass Pro, four months ago, looked OLD.

Dull and lifeless as Eric Swalwell.

Looked like they were rolled in human sweat and allowed to tarnish.

Please document and substantiate your acronym, I would like to know your facts.
The facts are primers bought from Crappy Caps Inc. are junk at this point. Many no go boom.

This has been documented to death. Type CCI into the search function. So many nightmares you won't sleep for a week.

You'd think CCI would want to fix the problem. But they're the only game in town. Why fix the problem when people keep buying them.

Waiting on Fiochi to come through and make more fantastic, manure free, products.

I bought 5,000 of these nightmares, along with 3,000 of their magnum nightmares.

They've been perfect.
