I had to take a break from carving this fancy curly maple. You need alot of hand strength to keep yourself from slipping on this grain or maybe I'm just weak. As I mentioned I have no carving experience and my first kit build. I made it thru the kit build OK put this carving is the real test. I know I've made mistakes and I still have a ways to go. I would like some input from the carvers out there as to what I need to correct or change. My big mistake was the large leaf and the cut that goes right thru it under the cheek piece. Should I leave it or is there something I can do. The big hole under the side plate was necessary to remove a broken drill bit stuck in the brass. My work area in the bedroom is very small so I mounted the Kibler shipping box on the wall and my grand kids decorated it and made it earthquake proof...... 20210929_104041.jpg20210929_104041.jpg20210929_104237 (3).jpg20210929_104204.jpg20210929_104613.jpg

I think you are doing Great! I have done only 2 Traditions kits and look at yours jealously. I learned, don't stress the mistakes. If you think about it, those old time builders did not do everything perfectly, espscially if they were just starting out. Hey Poopoo happens. If you want a perfect gun without that personal touch of yours on it, buy a factory made gun, looks like all the rest. At least you are enjoying your hobby and not out on the street getting up to no good. I also like the display case. COOOOL!
