I just picked up a AWS 1851 Colt kit that someone put together years ago. The gun had never been fired. It came with some lead ball that had totally turned white so you know it has been a long time. I fired it yesterday and was very pleased with how well it shot with 25 grains of 3F.
I assume that this is an Italian fantasy gun. It is a .44 and I think all 1851s were .36 and this one has a brass frame to boot. Whoever put the kit together did a good job on the mechanicals but didn't bother to work on the brass casting which is just as it came out of the mold; and the wood to metal fit for the grips is laughable. So I have some work to do, I wonder how tiger stripe maple grips would look?
My big question is. Does anyone know what sized nipple this gun might take and where I can get some? Anyone else have one of these guns?
