My second SMR arrived today, the box was in perfect condition. This was a quick ship with a tiny knot in the cherry stock, I’m sure it will look fine but if not I can put an inlay over it. Barrel is already inlaid and I’m working on the Butt plate. Just like the first one the plate seems to have a slightly different curve to it so basically need to adjust the entire length of the butt. It’s all god though, I’m off tomorrow so I have all day to play with it.

I actually bought the same caliber for myself. First one went to my grandson.
As far as finish I am leaning toward very dark , but I’ll see after I get it all sanded down, if the wood is pretty enough I just might keep it red.

Almost done with this project. The women in my life decided they wanted a red stock. My mom, wife, daughter and granddaughter are all Irish redheads so this rifle finish will be an homage to them. Pictures to follow soon, putting on final true oil coats over the next few days.

Finished up this afternoon. I purposely went with red per my above post and I’m very happy with the result.

Very nicely done! I've been doing more Cherry stocks lately, been also meaning to make one in Ash.

Very nice. How did you do that red?
Believe it or not I used a bottle of red ink used for office stamp pads diluted in water. Then I put a coat of English chestnut stain over the top to tone it down some. Three coats of Danish oil then five coats of true oil.
