When I see requests for these payment options from a seller concerning a firearm, it sets off alarm bells in my head. IMHO the best payment option for both buyer and seller is a USPS money order. Has any one ever successfully used these options without getting ripped off?

I have used PayPal hundreds of times without one problem. Paypal is protected. PayPal Friends and family is not. I would advise not using friends and Family unless you are reasonably certain of the integrity of the individual you are sending money. I use Postal Money orders for Fire Arms.

I have used PayPal for all my transactions on this forum. Some good communication ahead of paying will sort out any anxieties you may have. I look at the poster's history on here and if they are fairly new you can go to paypal and look up transaction reviews for the user.

I take it you've already used the Search function here to find and read the pages and pages of threads, information, and experiences about PayPal, PayPal Friends and Family, and Zelle -- so you're just checking via this new thread in order to be really sure.

Yep. I've seen the posts from people who have been scammed by some one asking for Zelle and PP. Like I said alarm bells went off when I read Zelle. I've always used Postal MO's and never had a problem, I also use PayPal but not for firearm related purchases. A friend of mine got scammed about 2 months ago on a BP purchase using PayPal F & F which is what first alerted me to this problem........ Thanks for the replies. It's a shame we have to question every thing today but an ounce of prevention prevents a ton of misery.

I have used PayPal for transactions across several websites with no issue. Like some posters have said, good communication can go a long way. I will generally exchange texts or even a phone call with the seller if it is a particularly high price item. If it is someone honest they will not mind the additional communication.

I would never use Zelle and as a buyer I do not like USPS money order either. I fully trust PayPal and if the deal is too good to be true then it isn’t real.

I use Paypal linked to a debit card which protected me when I got ripped off in a purchase on this forum (Zelle thread).
Since I didn't allude to a firearms purchase to PP and the purchase came from a debit card I went straight to my issuing bank NOT Paypal, and was quickly fully reimbursed. You mileage may vary of course but it worked very well for me.

Only dealt with Zelle a few times, no problems.

PayPal. 3 accounts shut down, NO EXPLANATION given. Money held for 90 days. The one and only time I ever managed to reach a "customer service," representative, all they would say about why is, "read the terms of service agreement." Never said what part of it I allegedly violated
I've also heard of people who did business using PayPal that did not involve anything firearms related, but the other person had another transaction that involved something firearms related. All accounts involved with that second person were locked, money held for 90 days.

Why would anyone here use such an openly anti-gun business such as PayPal?

I have used CashApp successfully many times, absolutely no problems. I've used it to pay for things and have received payment through the app.
I've even used CashApp to buy and hold Bitcoin.

I do think some of these newer services rely somewhat on the integrity of the user's. Zelle is supposed to be used in conjunction with a bank, I also have my CashApp linked with my bank. It couldn't hurt to ask your bank how things work if you feel you've been ripped off in a transaction using Zelle or CashApp.

That said, I generally use a USPS money order for payment for items purchased here and on other muzzleloading forums. Never had an issue with that either.

i have used PP many times to buy parts. and to pay a seller for those things we use.
after the episode here on Saturday i am rethinking it.
the seller hacked an account i am pretty sure. went back and read many posts by the listed user name. completely different attitude on the posts from earlier.
my clue was rapid PM's asking if i had paid yet. first one 1 minute after i got the sellers PP information.
soon i got PM's from other members cautioning me about this tool.
to date i have received 6 PM's saying he is going to come pay me a visit.
that's ok. hogs need fed.
OH Yeah, he was adamant with his opinion that i was the product of unwed parents 🥴

It is a ripoff. Tried to say something wrong with their credit card machine and they wanted me to send it to derek brown. How can all these people come up with caps but nobody else can

PayPal can put your money on hold for an extended period of time post sale ☹
That's why from now on I'm only taking Money orders.
I believe we were both surprised by this. As i read paypal whys it did say do the label printing through them and would release quicker. Plus it seems it got put on hold due to our infrequent pattern of paypal use? So paypal put it on hold to protect me to ensure the product or service was received by me. Neither of us knew this, understood it as we were just trying to finish an agreement to buy. The good news we were not and are not furstrated with each others handling of the transaction, jist shocked by what paypal is doing i believe. Would do business anytime with jim again. Companies are changing procedures and policies to protect themselves more so than the user......

It’s your money. So what if they don’t put it on hold. I have looked up these places on line and people are saying they sent them money and they stopped answering them and they got ripped off so take the chance if you want. Not me

I like to use a bank cashier's check
You can track it and you have help if someone tries to run a fraud on you.
And guaranteed funds

When we exchanged info, both of us have over 600 posts on here, exchange phone numbers and agree on money movement to both our satisfactions back channel why not use em. Sorry but you have 4 posts and i will not give you the same courtesy. Jim and i were both taken aback by the policy that paypal implemented. This was nothing against either of us but shocked us both. I believe the money was put on hold to protect me the buyer. Gives me many days to get my product i bought and resolve it if issues. Paypal then does not have to be a collection agency or take the loss.
