I have a nice flintlock Lancaster pattern longrifle made by a "J. Fahling". It is a contemporary rifle that I think was made about 20 years ago.
My question is; Who is/was J. Fahling? Where and when did he work? Any info whatsoever about him is appreciated.

Google his name followed by gumaker. He's out there. I found him.
Really? I've done that but come up with nothing. I found a list of gunmakers, but J. Fahling is not on the list. I found an obituary for a John Fahling, but it says nothing about him being a gunmaker. Maybe my computer doesn't support the same search engine that you use.

I was told by the guy that I bought the rifle from that J. Fahling is James Fahling and that he worked in Kentucky. However, I cannot confirm that.

https://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=78136.0 I found this Fahling rifle for sale that sold on this forum. I don't belong to that forum and didn't join up to pursue it further. Good start for you perhaps. There's a Jim Fahling originally from Kentucky who now lives in Wyoming. Looks to be hunter from his Facebook page

I visit that site from time to time, but I'm not a member, either. The site won't let me do a search there.
I have heard of the Jim Fahling in Wyoming, but I haven't found anything that says he makes long rifles or even is a gunsmith. Could be, though.
I don't do Facebook.

I hope he is and that he sees this thread.
I would just like to know a little about him and when he made my rifle.

Quite a few years back (like 20) there was a gunmaker by the last name of Ryan. I cannot remember his first name. He was listed on the Contemporary Longrifle site. He lived within 30 miles of me, and I stopped in to visit at his shop one time. He was very gracias and showed me around. His shop was a small log cabin full of hand tools, stock blanks, barrels, locks, and such. It was fascinating. But then he seems to have disappeared. Quit making guns? Moved away? Died? I don't know.
