We just finished our 3rd session at Camp Raven Knob in NC with the Scouts. For those new to this, we work with Scouts teaching muzzleloading safety and marksmanship with real black powder on the primitive range. I haven't been able to get many pix this year because my official photographer (my 89yo dad) fell a while back and hasn't been able to participate. This last week we got some pix sent in from folks who were there. As always, we start out with a brief history of muzzleloading and do a couple firing demonstrations and then it's on to shooting traditional patch round ball. We move on to minies in the 50cals with a minie I developed with Steve Brooks. The idea is to introduce the minie to the kids in a gun they've been shooting. The problem with the Lee minies in 50cal is I haven't found one that will stabilize properly at the powder charge levels we are mandated to use, hence the new design. Break for lunch, then back to it with Civil War muskets. It's a great time for all and the kids love it. Of special note this week in honor of the 4th of July was our own @PathfinderNC in colonial clothing shooting a flintlock he built.
