I have been tinkering with some scrimshaw and other small items., looking for various materials and such. I was at dollar tree yesterday and in the pet section, they had solid black 3 inch sections of water buffalo horn for $1.25 each. They are in plastic pouches hanging on pegs. I have been looking for some nice dense horn for making bodkins (lacing needles) nalbinding needles, etc. While too short in length for most knife scales, they are suitable for inlays, buttons, beads and several other items. I got some sections that have horn a 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick for turning small strips of it on the lathe.
