This thread started out with comments about "dogma" and
appeared to go downhill from there, then wandered off into different subjects. I didn't understand all the snarky comments in the dogma section. What's the problem? I've always personally enjoyed doing things the way they were done in the "old days," if only for the understanding it gave me of their skills and limitations, and for my own feelings of accomplishment. I didn't start out looking for new and more efficient ways to do what was done 200 years ago and don't really give a flip if somebody else wants to spend their own time that way. As far as getting into a p*ss*ng match over it,
no thank you. Life's too short to argue over things that I don't care about and don't affect me anyway. I was a competitive shooter in the unmentionable arena for a long time, got out of it because it just wasn't fun anymore. Muzzleloading is. For me, at least, that means replicating parts of history and doing so in as close to historical ways as I can, and teaching others who are interested in the same things what I've learned --- if and only if they want to learn. For those of y'all who prefer to find gear that looks like an unmentionable bolt gun and has an indestructible fiberglass stock and a telescope bolted on top, go for it. But don't come into a forum that is clearly defined as a traditional muzzleloading venue and then squawk because the folks here don't agree with you. There floats my stick.

Me as well, I am interested in history especially covering the French in the Mississippi and Missouri river drainage areas. For most Americans it is totally unknown and I find it fascinating, how they did things, including their firearms and usage is a big part of that.

Others interest in ML is different, that's ok, to each their own.

I’m going to stick with patched round balls and moderate, real BP loads. But I’m keeping an eye on @chorizo, if he survives the blasphemy, heck, I might try those methods too. ;)

He's tough. He'll survive the blasphemy. Not so sure about the recoil. 😀
Everyone talks about pie, why no love for the required ice cream to truly enjoy it?

Indeed!
Threads like this one just crack me up.

Yup, it's these that keep me from abandoning this collection of lunatics. 😀

Gee, I was seeing an uphill trend. 😀

I dunno, while a Dutch Apple is awful tasty but I might see your Dutch Apple and raise you a Huckleberry or Blueberry pie. 🥧
Black walnut pie. Piping hot with a cold half gallon of milk... But, really, I love them all. Grew up in the heart of the dirty south. Pie is almost a religion around here.

And there are those who complain about thread drift.....Sissies...what is a little pie, I mean thread drift, among friends. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

@longcruise As for the recoil, I now have permanent "taco" shoulder and have been spun around so many times, I don't know which way I am going!

As for the blasphemy ....Like the song "Highway to Hell" says, all my friends will be there!

I patch roundballs for my smoothbores with cotton pillow ticking....and charge them with FFFg!!!!

Some would think I just insulted their mother.......
Your mother can forgive, don’t count on it from the ml community at large
(By the by my smoothies have burned lots of 3f and PRB …. But don’t tell anyone😊

...My mother's Key Lime Pie is the best...

They make key lime pie up in idaho!?! Cool, would like to try hers; I thought we had a patent on it down here LOL. Yep Key Lime Pie is one of my best memories as a young man in central FL. Gotta make it real rich with Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk.
