Spare nipples for ROA?

While taking the gun apart, I had some trouble with the hexagonal nipples that were installed on the gun. I do know that with more use, they will get peened over and will need replacing.

I'd like to ask anyone with some experience in this matter as to what would be the best replacements, factory or after market?

Do you have the special Ruger nipple wrench to remove them? If not you should find one. I'm not sure but aren't the Ruger nipples a different thread than normal?

I do have the special nipple wrench supplied with the gun. I have heard all kinds of debate how after market nipples are so much better than the stock and vice versa. I am just collecting learned opinions.

Get them from ruger,allso a complete set of screws and the small springs for the trigger & hand. you will need one or more of them sooner or later.( in my case it was sooner) :shake: :shake:

I never use the Ruger nipple wrench. A 3/16 socket works much better. Wally world has a set of Black&Decker nutdriver tips to fit an interchangable screwdriver for about five bucks. It includes the 3/16 tip and that's all I ever use.
When I clean mine I put it in the oven at 350 for about a half hour. You want the temperature above the boiling point of water.
BTW to lighten the trigger pull you can replace the trigger spring with one from a ballpoint pen.

I use Tresco/Ampco beryllium nipples on all my percussion revolvers, including my ROA. They are excellent and IMO better than the original Ruger factory product. Apart from having a conventional flat instead of the Ruger Hex, the flash holes are smaller and give surer ignition. I generally find Remington #10 caps work best on them.
