Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
Let's say I shoot a 7/8- ounce load with a 7/8- ounce scoop of powder. Will the velocity be the same as a 1-ounce load with a 1-ounce scoop of powder? How about 1 -1/8 ounce.... All other things being the same.
Hmmmm,,,,, interesting question.
Somehow I doubt it.
For one thing, I don't know that all else can be the same. And I'm sure there are factors involved that a dummy like me can't think of.
I'd love to see some chronograph testing of this. Although I don't really worry much about actual velocity with shot loads, they either pattern well and pass the steel can penetration test or they don't.
In a 20 bore Lyman found. 2 1/2 dram charge …. 68 grains give a7/8 Oz 1012 fps
A one Oz 23/4 dram 75 grains is 1021 statistically the same a 3 dram 82 grains drives a 11/8 Oz 1080. These test were all useing the same wad system.
In a 12 bore 3 drams 1 1/8 Oz gets 1062
3 1/4 drams 1 1/4 Oz gets 1162 and 3. 1/2 drams under 11/2 Oz gets 1126
Different wads gets different velocities
