Tanglefoot what region of the great Tejas empire do you hail from?
Nice photos! The burial plot for Henry Deringer is in Philadelphia's famous Woodlands Cemetery; I've been there.I have several parts left from trades I've done . One complete Colonial kit and almost enough to do 2 more Colonial kits. I may take one and maybe build something like this.

It is a 5" barreled full stock pistol. I would also like to take one kit and make a 3" shorty type hideout gun. Kinda like a daringer only bigger.

You guys got any ideas to kick aroundaround?

Yikes! I have that book! Invaluable! Heartily recommended!DL,
I have been buying them from a couple different sources. I prefer to buy in person or from a reputable party to get the best quality possible. TOW has them, and have heard good things about their flints, but have no experience with them. Wrap in leather, it holds better especially with smaller flints. A good resource for a flintlock newbie is "Flintlocks A Practical Guide for their Use and Appreciation" by Eric A. Bye

Good point about the weight...Using lead in light weight locks reduces cock speed and can break the cock. Lead requires much greater clamping force to hold the flint securely. It greatly increases weight and inertia. I don't use lead as flint wraps. Tried it once did not like it.
