When the P-H line came out, I was a poor college student and couldn't afford any of them. It took me thirty years before I could and managed to get all three. I have used the musketoon as my N-SSA carbine gun in the past. I now shoot a Smith repo so that I can miss faster.

The 1858 is my musket match arm.

I'm envious. Do you make your own cartridges with Pritchett bullets? Do they all take the same load?

I have a Prichett mould, but haven't cast any yet. My usual load is a 345 grain Rapine semi wadcutter over 45 grains of FFFg Goex. This load does fine in the 2 bander and the musketoon. Haven't tried in the 1853 yet.

I don’t know if you have ever checked the pitch of the rifling on this, but that serial number is within the range where P-H made some three band Enfields with 1 in 48 pitch rifling, while the rest were the standard Pattern 1853 Rifle Musket pitch of 1 in 78. May affect your choice of bullet for best performance.

If mine has the quicker twist, it should do well with the loads I already use.

I particularly wanted an 1853 Enfield as that is what my great, great granddaddy carried during the War of Yankee Aggression.

Also, Bobby Hoyt will reline a barrel with a progressive-depth liner. Look up Freischutz Shop on Facebook.
Both have excellent reputations.

Whitacre told me they don't make Enfield replacement barrels, just Springfield.
And Mr. Hoyt is not taking any new orders until "this fall".
Any other barrel maker filling this niche?

Gain twist is completely different from progressive depth rifling.

True. But both features are sometimes found in the same bore.

I also got a hold of a copy of C.H. Roads' THE BRITISH SOLDIER'S FIREARM.
This will keep me busy for a while.
