I have one of these spout kits from track http://www.trackofthewolf.com...TID=1&SUBID=12&STYLEID=42&PARTNUM=SPOUT-KIT-B

I haven’t used it yet; I can't seem to find any pictures of an original example of it. It’s pretty neat, just a little large. Just wondering if anyone has seen or knows of where I might be able to find a picture of this spout on an original horn.

I have seen lots of horns with this kind of spout, but don't know where to send you to see a picture.

If you have concerns about using it on a horn ask and some horners will surely answer your questions. It should not be a complicated installation on your horn.

I made this early this year. It's iron spout version and my friend want it to look like little bit worn out.

Wow Blackhand thats fantastic, in the picture of your horn it looks like you atached the spout to a wood plug. Is that corect?

I REALLY like that spout, but I can't help but wonder, how water tight is that spring-loaded cover?

ANd I have to wonder how top heavy either a spout made of brass or cast iron would make that horn. The last thing I would want is to carry around more weight, and have a honr where it would naturally work its way around my neck so that the spount is aiming to the ground with only that spring loaded lever keeping the powder in the horn. Brush against anything and you start losing powder, no?

The TOW ad mentioned the Powder Flask book so that would be a good area to start. About the U.S. Arsenal. I think the Federal Government bought what they called contract rifles from a bunch of private Pennsylvania builders like the Henrys. The government wanted a regiment of riflemen and they outfitted these guys with the horns that have the value spouts. So the horns have a military background.
I too wonder how well that type spout kept the powder dry from atmospheric moisture.

If it was me, and this is not a PC solution, I would epoxy a thin leather piece on the spout cover, then apply beeswax to that. If the spring is strong, you may not need the wax, but it could not hurt.

Yes that is correct!
The style of carrying this horn is that is fixed with 2 leather tongs on your belt and the spout is upwards. http://cows-finland.org/kuvagalleria/displayimage.php?album=95&pos=15

I made the cover to fit good as possible and was thinking about the fixing a tiny piece of leather on it but I didn't do it. But not with epoxy. Never used that stuff in any of my gear and never will!

I have been trying to get a tight fit between the the spout hole and the cover, the leather washer Idea got me thinking, instead of glue I drilled a hole in the cover and used a small flat head brass tack as a rivet and used it to afix a small leather washer, I greased it with a bit of beeswax/crisco. I tiped it upside down and filled it with a bit of water, the spout didnt leak a bit!, onley thing is the washer seams to drag a bit when I open the spout, mabee just needs to brake in a bit and wear down the edge of the leather washer that drags.

My camera is loaned out, so I used my outstanding artistic ability to draw ya a pic. For the rivet I used a flat head brass tack, I poked a small hole in the leather and drilled a hole in the cover, I cut the tack just over length and hammered it through the leather and the cover, I used a punch and hammered it against my vice to peen the end of the tack. I didn't pound on it too hard out of fear of smacking the head of the tack through the leather. Also if you try this, I would sujest attaching the leather disk before drilling the hole for the lever cross pin. I had to file the tip of the spout down a bit to allow clearance for the leather washer.
