A followup post:

I've acquired a Pietta /Traditions 1860 from Midway USA. I didn't specify Traditions, that's just what showed up. It was on sale with free shipping, so I took the plunge

First impressions are quite favorable. The external fit and finish is very good. The action locks up nicely and the timing seems spot on. The arbor appears to be the correct length.

I'll be able to form a more definitive opinion as I put rounds through this revolver.

A huge thanks to all who took the time to offer their respective comments in response to my inquiry.

glad to hear you made out well. a lot of guys complain about the Italian revolvers but they are cheap and finished very nice

Cololab, if yours shoots high like ine did, VTI Gunparts sells a German silver front sight for the Uberti conversion revolvers. Part number UB900015. $9.00. I had to thin the base a few thousandths and it corrected a slight windage problem as well as bringing the ball to point of aim at 25 yards. Good luck with your 1860, their great guns.

I'd rather buy Uberti Colt clones and fix the short arbor . The guns are just made better.

That said I have 5 Piettas and all of them are just fine, but they're just range shooters. I really don't have the pride in owning them that I do with my Uberti made Colt 2nd Gen revolvers
