Is it better to use magnum primers with Pyrodex?.I have also noticed some people advise using P at a reduced charge rather than RS.What is your opinions?
I knew what you were saying, no issues.
I do it just to keep me from doing something stupid like double loading it, or if something were to happen to me like a car accident or something I'd like my family who don't use muzzleloaders and aren't very familiar with them to know how to tell it's loaded. During hunting season is the only time it might ever be left with a charge in it.
If you ever do disagree with something I've posted...well, I'll be listening. I've heard that you've shot a bit of black powder in your time.
The one I bought has a brass looking insert inside the rod flush with the tip.I have only cleaned mine a couple times since I got it,and I have been using a shotgun brush, mop,and a looped patch jag.I intend to replace this one so I am just going to deal with it as a loading only rod for now.I bought it on impulse when I went to buy some #11 caps. They did not have any in stock, but I got the rod.I got two partial tins of caps when I got the gun.One is Winchester magnums, and the other CCI ,I guess just regular.I have read that Pyrodex is hard to lite, and I think I will be stuck using it because I don't think I will have any luck finding black powder. Is it better to use magnum primers with Pyrodex?.I have also noticed some people advise using P at a reduced charge rather than RS.What is your opinions?
I probably was not clear in my description, but I mean the rod itself has a brass insert in the end ,in much the way an arrow has a threaded insert that the head,or tip threads into.Zeb,
I think the brass insert you found in the ram rod holder was a spring loaded device to keep the ram rod from sliding out when the rifle is pointed down.
