An often asked question I am sure but here goes. I load 12g cartridges with black powder and have done for ages. Just acquired a muzzle loader and am puzzled as to how much lube to use on the wads. On cartridge cushion wads I use Crisco and beeswax and know exactly how much to use on the hard capped wads. It has been suggested that with the muzzle loader and shooting shot I should use the softer cushion wad.
Question is what lube and how much.. Sloppy wad or nearly dry. I would appreciate help.

Look for topics relating to the " skychief load".
I often just use a few over shot cards as a wad but put a blob of bees wax / olive oil grease between them for fouling management and bore protection if not cleaned for a day or two.
There is absolutely no need for wads used in modern shot shells to be used in a muzzleloader.
