Imported Guns Are Junk

So says this guy I watched on YouTube last night. He said essentially, that the locks on imported factory built flintlocks are made poorly and it's pure luck to find one that functions properly. He also stated that the only way to get a lock that works consistently, is to have it custom made. What say you?

Semi-true. Nothing usually works as well as something custom made by a professional but, are all factory made locks junk? No. People that make blanket statements like what you saw on Youtube usually have very little first-hand experience or they would not make such statements to begin with. Those of us that have actually owned, shot and worked on flintlocks of our own know that there are always locks that are great right out of the box, some that are ok, with a little adjusting and some that are a lost cause right off the bat but that can be said about almost anything.

there are so many imported guns that his argument is silly! there are good imported locks and great customs, just as there are good Yugo's and there are Roll's Royce.

At a recent shoot I attended, I shot two Traditions guns and an Investarms gun. Traditions is imported from Spain and Investarms is imported from Italy. The locks on these guns worked flawlessly with no issues (both flint and percussion). It seems like a gross overgeneralization to call all imported locks junk in my eyes .

I have a couple of pedersolis… both are Awsome consistant shooters.. I’ve shot Traditions as well.. no issues. Typical internet opinions..

I HAD A TRADITIONS trapper and after 500 shots there wasnt any rifling in the last 4 inches of the barrel..SOFT STEEL these companys from guawanda land used. Lesser quality on barrels /parts ect..

i have two locks that are not production. a Haddaway and a Siler. both are wonderful locks.
i have 3 imported locks. setup correctly and they work just like the "higher quality" ones.
i have a investarms that hasn't misfired in 200 shots. my Mortimer has never not fired. my Ardesa has never not fired.
and the beat goes on.......................

There is know doubt that there is a big difference in workmanship between a repro and a original , for me it has always been originals mainly because they was no reproes 74 years ago when I bought my first and the originals were a reasonable price but they were English made of course

Since almost all production bp guns are made overseas you would think more people would be talking about this, if it were true.

This kind of hate is usually reserved for guns made in India. That's a whole different subject but the 2 India guns I have do not agree with your You Tube Boob.

Cheaper flintlocks on imported guns can be poor, but I had a Davis that was manure , and Long triggers that were put together by monkeys. I’ve heard folk complain about L and R, but I never had trouble with them. Davis and Long stood by their work.
I’ve seen several curry poppers I would be proud to own.
I drink mostly beer. I do like a good Chianti an Pinot. Had them imported and domestic. Cant say one is ‘better’ then the other
Same with cheese.
I’ll tell this boy any foreign gun he doesn’t like he can send to me.
