Just ordered a box of 50 cal Hornady prelubed PA. conical in 240 gr. and presently shoot TC 275 gr. conical out of an Investram flint lock in 1 in 48 with 75 gr. of 2F. Just wondering of any experience with this round good or bad and do you think my load is good for deer inside 100 yds. ?

I shoot them out of a TC White Mountain carbine I have sometimes and they shoot pretty good. That gun won't shoot a PRB worth a squat. Between 50-60 yards seems to be the sweet spot, beyond that they start to drift some. I use 65 grns. of 3F.

I've tried them in a 1 in 48 and 66 cva, both shot under 2 inch at 50 yards. That was with 70 gr 3f. Your milage may vary. Any accurate load with 60 plus gr would be plenty for bambi. They basically give a 50 the heavier thump of a 54. I've just always preferred a 54 round ball.

I had a .50 that liked them a lot. It was 1:60 or 1:66 CVA barrel that was unmarked (not marked Made in Spain). I sighted it in for a Sika Deer hunt and was successful. The conical flattened out quite a bit on one deer and exited another, both around 65-yard shots. Since then I've not had a 50, so experience is limited to that one barrel a few years ago.
