Every once in awhile this subject comes up, so though some pics on one way to do it would be in order.
The rib is attached w/ screws which makes it easier to install the front sling holder. The same sling holder can be used w/ a soldered on or riveted rib if installed before the attachment. A slot has been filed from the bottom side of the rib.
The front sling holder was made from a coat hanger and the hi temp silver solder joint is hidden by the leather loop...the shiny area is the solder joint.
The 1/8" thick toeplate has a stud riveted on which has a transverse hole to accept a modern sling holder. 2 wood screws attach the toeplate and one is quite close to the stud. A more primitive sling holder can be made that's similar to the front.
