Haha yeh, I’ve been also a guest at the same “resort”…

They actually put us up at the resort at Shoal Bay, as in Shoal Bay resort and Spa! The place was absolutely beautiful and right on the beach. Turns out, the Commanders at the RAAF base decided the billeting on base would not be suitable for us visitors and got a contract at the resort. We did see the lodging on base and while it would have sufficed the resort was MUCH more comfortable. Bloody nice of them! The first day we arrived we were in uniform (US Air Force) and while waiting we were getting coffee at a nearby shop or hanging out by the street. We had several Aussies stop to chat and thank us for setting up the big gum emplacements at the opening of the bay during WWII to keep the Japanese Navy out. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. You have a great bunch of folks down under!

Driving was strange to us, right seat, left lane. Only un-pleasantry was trying Vegemite. Never quite acquired a taste for it, I prefer my yeast intake through beer 🤣
