I watched Chato's Land last night, and was surprised to see that often the rifle-muskets could be fired when the hammers were already down on the nipples. Amazing though it may seem, they often didn't produce any smoke or flame at the muzzle when discharged. They did make a helluva bang though. Must have been some sort of secret weapon I guess...

I used to see the same thing in the old Daniel Boone series. No flint puff and no smoke out of the rifle but it sure banged well. There is a couple of scenes in "The Big Sky" that are the same way.

I actually think they are flintlock sniper models. No smoke to give you away. :grin:
