The following video shows the manual of arms for grenadiers, but at about 4:30, the video demonstrates the proper technique for lighting and throwing hand grenades. Just though it was interesting and tied into the info in this thread, as the grenade used in the mortar may have been the same:

Musket and Grenade Exercise

Here is a short vid of the hand mortar firing (this is not me, I've not yet had a chance to take some video). If you watch carefully, you can see the ball leave the muzzle.

Hand Mortar

Thanks for videos.

Loyalist sells make-believe grenades. They are black plastic balls filled with sand and have a wooden plug with a hank of safety fuse, all painted semi-gloss black.

Wes Tex;
There a visual of that Hand Mortar/Halberd combo coming soon or otherwise around with a reference anywhere?

Just so happens someone we know has a hand mortar and a halberd looking for the right sized staff and this might just be the determining factor...

:wink:

The illustration shows the bombadier with about a 30 degree up-angle of the bore. The halberd shaft could be custom trimmed to fit the height of the shooter, unless the halberd was an antique.
