Tell us the whole story. Did you see him from a distance and waited for the perfect shot? Or as what usually happens to me, as I look around it is as if a deer suddenly appears out of thin air.

Thompson center renegade 50 caliber with tang peep sight. Used 80 grains homemade black powder and a home cast 385 grain minie ball. Marion county Arkansas
Congratulations from a jealous guy in Baxter County. Mighty fine. I've seen few like that in many years of hunting both Baxter and Marion counties. However, methinks a round ball would have done just as well.

Setting in the woods on a 16 foot ladder stand . Had a doe about 20 yards behind me . Seen this buck slowly feeding towards me . When He got About 45 yards from me he saw the doe and started coming straight towards me . He put his head down to pick up a acorn and I shot him between his shoulders . Not the shot I wanted but in this case it worked.

Yes I'm sure it would have . When I was 16 and my first 50 caliber I shot conical bullets and it just stuck with me.
