Tired of real cruddy, short, wiggly shooting benches, so my brother and I set out to build our own permanent shooting bench, built to our size.
Lots of folks you see on the range are always hunched over, rear ends sticking out like its for sale, necks bent back to compensate for their poor shooting form.
We settled on a height of 37 1/2" and if we need to adjust, we have an adjustable chair and front shooting rest. Keep in mind, all of us that will use it are in the 6'0 and 6'4 range. I had my neck repaired last year and so I have to shoot with my back straight and just a little tiny bit of a forward lean.
I'm not going to post the step by step process unless I get some requests for it, but its a great way to build yourself a solid shooting bench built to your body size and shooting form.
A cement pad was mandatory as we get a lot of mud. We'll back fill it with gravel AFTER, we put a roof over it. Its not a done deal yet until the roof is on
Later we acid washed the entire bench and platform and applied an epoxy seal.
Before epoxy
After epoxy
Total cost with cement, cinder blocks, epoxy, rebar and wood was just a little over $360.
If you don't have a skid steer to lift the top, 4 or 5 big strong guys can lift the top onto the legs.
