SOLD Lyman Great Plains Rifle .50!

I bought this rifle from a respected member here a couple months ago. I just don't have time for more guns. It is UNFIRED - he never fired it and neither did I. Previous owner refinished the stock with an oil finish and used cold blue to give the barrel an antiqued finish. It's really...

    Pietta Loading Data

So I actually RTFM here today: http://www.pietta.us/pdf/Manuale_Avancarica_ENG.pdf I am very surprised to see Pietta claiming 12gr FFFg as max load for their .36 cal revolvers, 15 for .44s, and 60gr FF for their shotguns. We all know those numbers are bunk. I got my loading data from my...

    HELP!

Someone stop me from buying one of the Pedersoli .50 double rifles Midway has in stock. Tell me it's too heavy. I don't need another gun. My modern inlines are better anyway. Help.

North American Arms Companion Cap and Ball .22

I just came across these guns - amazing! Anyone happen to have one? Not sure what would be used for ammo. .22 RLBs are made for airguns, but would size be ideal? NAA makes their own 30gr bullets but they're out of stock everywhere.

    Pietta .36 1851 Navy Snubby - 3" Barrel

Anyone know what kind of velocities I can expect out of this, with what loads? (I bought one long ago when supplies were slim and still have not fired it..)

    Cylinder Reaming

I measured the chambers and barrel of my Pietta 1858: - Chambers: .357-.358 - Bore: .346 If I understand correctly, I do NOT want to ream the chambers, as they are already larger than the bore - correct?

    PRB Expansion

I fired a couple rounds from my .36 Pietta 1858 into clay and pulled the balls. Thought I'd post the pics here. You can see there is substantial expansion. The slightly flatter ball was fired with 25gr of powder, the other with 20gr. If I can find my calipers I'll measure them.

    CCI #10 Caps

I have been using RWS 1075s for a long time since they were what I could get. CCI 10s became available so I bought 1,000. I figured 10s were the best size for C&P guns. Well, maybe they are, but I shot them today and had 3 duds out of 10. Three. And I spun the cylinder around each time and hit...

    Percussion Wheel Gun Accuracy

I have a few of these now and my favorite is the Pietta 1858 Remington in .36. I have been shooting with 15 and 20gr of FFFg, wonder wad, ball. I am not too impressed with what I can do with it on paper so far. I have read of people shooting 2" groups at 25Y. I am shooting 2" groups at 10Y...

    Best Reassembly Oil

What do people use for lube when reassembling their BP wheelguns? I've been using a general "synthetic gun oil" and not sure it's the best thing. I do use only a tiny bit.

    Percussion rifle for round balls

Hello, I'm looking to add a traditional cap rifle shooting round balls to my collection. Requirements are adjustable sights (so I can hit a deer fatally to 100Y or so) and that's about it. What is the ideal twist rate for patched round balls? Is 1:48 Ok or do I want at least 1:62? Any...

Can anyone recommend an open-carry holster for an 1858 Remington, and/or other SA black powder revolvers?

    Patterns: Pedersoli 12ga & Ruger O/U

Patterned both guns today in the back yard at 40Y. I intended to hunt turkey with the beautiful Pedersoli almost no matter what but I wanted to see how it stacked up to the modern gun. The Ruger was shooting 2 3/4" shells with 1 1/16 oz #4. The SBS is 80gr each of FFg and #6 shot, loaded...

What size cards/wads for choked barrels?

I've got a Pedersoli 12 with Modified left barrel and IC right. I find 12 gauge wads especially hard to load without tearing. I know some use 13g but I worry about having shot move in the field due to the loose fit. Has anyone ever had issues with this? BTW I'll be patterning this gun using...

    Safe Loading Devices

Does anyone make any kind of device designed to keep your hand *not* over the muzzle when using a ramrod? Some kind of attachment or special rod? I have several muzzleloading weapons - modern inlines as well as a percussion rifle and Pedersoli SBS shotgun. I shoot real black in the percussion...

    Chokes are funny things!

I have a (gorgeous) Pedersoli SxS in 12. I was unsure of the choke so bought one of those choke-telling insert thingies. It tells me that the left barrel is choked "1/2" which according to this chart I found is .020" which is Modified. All good so far. Here's the kicker. I bought two full...
