Thanks, I couldn't even remember what thread it was in. All I could do is search four months of TDM's posts and I must have missed it there too.

Finished a pair of 45s today! Actually they are just refinished. Got them both from members here at a better price than I could buy a rifle kit alone! Jukar rifle, CVA pistol.

Thank you! I pretty much finished mine tonight, all it lacks is one more coat of oil on the rammer and maybe cold-blue the rear sight. Well, that and actually firing it....

I had to come into the city to pick up a neighbor at the airport, so I figured I’d grab some groceries whilst in town. Hit the Walmart on the way. About halfway thru my shopping the thought crossed my mind to go look and see if there were any leftover caps in sporting goods (in the farrrrr corner of the store.). The ML section had been getting thin the last few times I’d looked, so it looked like they weren’t restocking anything. But, last time I cruised thru another Wally’s, out of the blue there was one tin. I had some time to kill, so didn’t mind the walk.



JAAAAACKPOT! Close out special.


It’s already too late in the evening to get a Powerball ticket. Dang!

CCI coughs up one run in what, three years? and that's it I guess. Good thing I converted my only percussion revolver to take metallic cartridges a few years ago and everything else is ignited with rocks.

Close out for Walmart. They only display ML stuff for a coupla months, then they change that pegboard to something else. It was kid’s life jackets until the ML stuff went up.

Unfortunately our local Wally World no longer stocks muzzle loading stuff. Plenty of modern but no BP stuff. They did a few years ago.

I’ve found that it depends on the store. The more urban the area, the less likely they are to stock it, but that also doesn’t always hold true.

Good find! Even the old price was good. Our local china mart has muzzleloading stuff but no caps. Was that in Ashland city? Did I they have any pyrodex or 777 on sale?

Charlotte Pike. I found 1 tin in Ashland City about two weeks ago. That's what generated the little spark of hope I felt at the Charlotte Pike store and made the hike to the sporting goods section. It's a huge store. Sorry, but I didn't even look for anything else.

Closing day. Getting one last hunt in. And STILL getting eaten by skeeters.

Shot my original Swiss-Jaeger .70cal for the first time! It is about 250 years old. It was converted a very long time ago from Flintlock to percussion. Thinking about getting it converted back to Flint.

I want a really good gunsmith that can make it "period correct" I want it just like when it was born. Thinking about reaching out to Ron Scott and see if he has time.

Finally got to shoot my recently completed Kibler Woodsrunner .54 caliber flintlock rifle this afternoon. 70 grains homemade FFF, no "g". .535" round ball, as cast from a Lyman mould, almost pure lead, .016" ticking patch, water with a dab of Dawn and castor oil for lube. On paper at 25 yards, then to 50 yards on the bags for a sighter, then filed down the front sight, and then shot three for a group. I didn't measure it but the hole in the backer is about 1.5 calibers in diameter, probably less, I'm calling it a quarter-inch group. After drifting to center I burned up a quarter pound of powder beating on gongs and rocks until it got too dark. Didn't get any pictures of the gun today, maybe tomorrow.

By the way, I filed a .060" square notch in the rear sight because I couldn't see that tiny vee tick in it at all.

Well I guess I finally get to post in this thread! Finally did some muzzleloading stuff!
Took my rifle out for the first time. Traditions percussion Kentucky Rifle. First muzzleloader I've fired, and first blackpowder I've fired, and holy COW. What an AWESOME time! Don't get me wrong, I love my modern arms, and my WW2 era stuff, but I had an absolute blast. Already contemplating my next muzzleloader (I'm thinking a flintlock Dragoon pistol). I took my dad along and he loved it too. He's about ready to buy a Hawken Rifle already XD

Also did my part to help grow the community. Had some interested folks come up asking about the rifle, and I let them try it out. Five people in all, and five smiling faces as soon as they pulled the trigger.

And the best part, it was probably the cheapest range day I've ever had, aside from some .22 plinking (And even that might be a close race). All said and done, I only ran through about 25 rounds in the couple hours I was there. No I'm not quite THAT slow on reloading, but the conversations with those interested folks ate up some time. But I really just took my time and enjoyed it. I didn't have my usual lead-flinging mentality where I'd have the urge to put 120 rounds down range in 20 minutes (Though granted, I haven't been shooting much since ammo prices spiked during covid, so that mentality might be gone by necessity XD).

Only downside was the cleaning. I'm absolutely shocked how dirty it got with only 25 rounds down range. Definitely running a brush through it mid-session next time around. Got a little bit tough to load after a while.

Already planning a trip out to the desert with a few buddies to see if I can get them addicted too.

Glad you enjoyed your new rifle, but please just swab the barrel with a damp patch, using a brush usually leads to trouble depending on what type your using.
