My first pound of Black powder back in 1973 was Curtis and Harvey. For $3.00 at Ron Shirk's shooter supplies in Central PA. Guess it will be foreign brands again. PA has a flintlock season. Worried that this may be the end of it that so many in-line shooters have whined for.

That’s very sad news they are closing. I have a few lbs of it but mostly T7 for my caplock. I was considering a flintlock next year but maybe not now. Will just keep my cap inventory restocked whenever I can.

Can we use a bit of logic? 100 black powder shooters in your club. 10 shooters 'hoard for future use. No more BP available. Your club now has 10 shooters and goes broke. The "unmentionable" club gains 50- 90 members and becomes healthy and expands.. Who has gained/lost? Polecat [Remember the guy who bought millions of bottles of hand sanitizer . ended up giving it away or selling at a great loss].

Hodgen is a relatively new comer to black powder manufacturing.
Each time a plant blew up or burnt down someone stepped up to manufacture it.
I see no need for wringing of hands and wrending of garments just yet.

just made a quick run to Shyda’s Outdoor sports and grabbed what they had about an hour on the Pa. Turn Pike, 23.00 a pound got 3 and the last 36 cal. Balls they had.

We may have to go to making do on our own.The ingredients are available after all. And there are the substitutes. If it's Pyrodex or nothing the Pyro wins.

This run I just made lot’s the Powder Talley at 10 or 11 pounds mixed between FF and FFF 3,000 Precusion Primers and a bag of Flints. This will run the Machine for some time.

I have never liked anything but flintlock rifles since I got started in muzzleloading back in 1971. At that time, age 17, I could purchase a one pound can of black powder from my local, family owned, third generation hardware store that was just over the Baltimore City/Baltimore County line here in Maryland. No restrictions, just a couple of questions from the owners son to make sure I wasn't going to go make pipe bombs from it.

The world that I inhabit today, 50 years later, bears no resemblance to those seemingly distant times. my beloved flintlock longrifles are in serious danger of being sidelined for good.

For those that point out that new black powder plants have always opened after an old plant closed its doors, I say to you that I hope that the past is indicative of the future as regards to the Goex plant in Louisiana closing come 2022.

My fears, and I don't feel like I am an alarmist, is that there is a new paradigm afoot.

LIke I said, I hope I am wrong, but I think that the handwriting is on the wall as regards to my muzzleloading shooting in the future.

My gosh, the N-NSA shooters, the ML hunters, the Re-Enactors, the hobbyist; let's hope this resolves somehow. We still have, for now, the overseas suppliers, but the cost will go thru the ceiling, and if the administration forbids imports of BP, I will say no more. (They already forbid import of ammo from Russia)

Traditional muzzleloading represents a small minority of a marginalized sport. GOEX manufacturing isn't profitable and thus it's being closed. Providing other brands on black powder are profitable they will continue to be available. Very few gun shops I buy from, sell blackpowder, primarily because the low interest in the sport deters investment. It's a highly regulated explosive and not worth the aggravation for most dealers to carry.

Actually, if you have the storage chest, not a big deal, you can stock what, 25 lbs. at home, even? I do understand not many dealers or shops are crazy about it nowadays.

For the last few years that I have really gotten into blackpowder shooting there has always seemed to be a shortage of powder. I really think it will be produced in the US again. But I am really glad I shoot mostly small bore and a pound goes a long way. I love this sport and cant imagine not being able to shoot whenever I want. BP has been my saving grace when unmentionable stuff has been unobtainable I could always cast some round balls and shoot for a few hours with very little cash spent.

You are right. I think of the big Brown Bess shooters, with the huge bores! I just got 2 lbs. 3F today, after reading the notices. Bet by tomorrow, they'll be out or hording. Paid $32.50/lb., bet it goes to $50.!! The N-NSA guys, shoot tons of stuff each year, the Re-Enactors, holy manure! This HAS to resolve!

Speaking of legal Places for Powder Storage as far as businesses go there is a Muzzleloader shop that keeps there BP in an old Out House but it’s far from the business that the ATF requires. This must be where the old saying came from, So Far So Good, LOL….

My local had no 2F. 1,3,4F only. The run on the stuff will be in full force tomorrow. Glad I got couple today, they seemed clueless at the time. Wait til it's $50 a pound.!!

In 1970 my 1st real job was $2.20/hr. Got about $250/mo. as E5 in the Army; (66-67)
