What you got is another Lyman poor quality control, in other words Junk, I haven't seen a good Deerstalker since they quit using the real Walnut stock.
You will have to redo the whole stock, remove the extra wood and re-stain it, and coat it with Tru-oil.
Another bad thing is the sling swivel come out on just about all there rifle, and if it dose, you end up with a broken stock, if it falls wrong.
Its up to you if you want to keep it or return it, and hope the trigger and lock work work to your likings.
You did not buy a Kit, you bought a so called finished rifle.
