!/2 horse electric motor, so not H.C. but a fascinating piece of farm equipment on a homesteader scale.
Jim Beam whisky barrel with a 36" go cart axle run through it on pillow block bearings. 6 pairs of double bladed hardwood paddles spaced evenly, looking like wooden airplane props. The motor rpm was reduced with jack axles and step pulleys down to only 170 rpm. Just right for breaking open pods, but not busting beans.
The whole thing balanced in a cedar cart. Pour the pods in the hopper on top, run for 45-60 seconds, pull the latch underneath. The trap door of barrel staves swings open on hinges dumping the beans and pods into the tub.
Pour into buckets and winnow in my constant north wind between the barn and house.
Gets lots of curiosity seekers when you do it next to the farm stand.
