I was in a pawn shop about an hour from me and saw it. Asked to look at it and bought it on the spot.
Paid two & a quarter. Did some Google Fu. Can’t find a lot and thought this place is the place to ask. Professional shootist who been around. Not for sale. Just got it today. NOT FOR SALE.
Figure you guys seen em all.
Its .58 caliber , and a copy of the Remington Short Rifle or Zouave.

I haven't seen a Ranson in years. If the bore is good you got a deal. You'll find a lot of info by Googling Remington Model 1863 Percussion Contract Rifle or variations of that. The name Zouave was a marketing ploy by Navy Arms in the late 50s or early 60s. Enjoy!

I thought the Zouave was some sort of after idea.
And I thought these were never used in the war either.

I owned/hunted with one for years in the 1960s & '70s. Regardless whether I fired round ball or minie the charge was always from 60 grns to 70 grns of either 2F or 3F.

Yep picked up one about 3 years ago. Have to barely shave a .575 mini to fit. 65 grains
