A long time ago I gave up the idea of using pyrate
because of what I heard. Others were using welders
flint [ferriseum sic]. I had pretty good luck with
them until now when I contacted FireSteel.com and
ordered several 3/16 X 3" sticks. I cut them to
size and insert in a brass block in the jaws of
the dog..Very hot compared to what I had used...I
can get ten flashes in a row and that is only because
I stopped there. These Fire sticks last very long
and I rotate them a quarter turn every few shots..
I am very satisfied and will continue using them.
Very inexpensive AND very available.Contact Ron
Fontaine at FireSteel.com. He has various sizes
and lengths...I hope I didn't break any rules with that address.

Good post Wulf. Nice hearing from you...I think I
will try one in a flintlock action. Should spark
really good. Stay tuned....

Raszpla, are you back or was that a flying visit?

Can I send you my wheel lock for fixing?

Notice the back angle on the dog..that is to prevent
the spray from the vent from damaging the pyrate or
ferrocerium sticks. Works for me..

Hi Raszpla,
I just heard that your shop was destroyed by fire. I am so sorry to hear that and hope you can get back in business as quickly as possible. We are thinking of you and wish you all the best.

Well, I am sending him my lock mechanism from my Wheellock, because I just for the life of me can't get that thing to spark right.
